Conservatives in
Canada
by Ray
Wegner
The problem I see with so-called Conservatives today is
that they have become politically correct, and willing to justify all
kinds of inconsistencies, contradictions, and outright lies by the likes
of Stephen Harper and his crew in Ottawa. This has all been done to cling
to power. Therefore many of them are perfectly willing to compromise with
principles in order to stay in power - with the hope of forming a majority
government by Harper.
Conservatives all over Canada are bending over
backwards, and are twisting in the wind, and using every imaginable
politically correct excuse possible to justify Harper's lies and flip
flops and micromanaging, control freak tactics. It is a pathetic and disgusting spectacle
seeing Conservatives twisting in the wind and becoming so distorted and
malformed that they are like a pretzel with arthritis.
It shows me how dishonest some people are willing to be
just for the sake of power.
Let me give you some examples of how Harper and the
current Conservative establishment in Canada has betrayed Canadians and
conservatism in Canada.
1.
Calling an early election for October 2008 - breaking a legislated
fixed election date promise, and forcing Canadians into a 300 million dollar election
we did not need and could not afford.
2. Running the biggest spending Canadian government ever and increasing
spending at twice the rate of inflation and revenue.
3.
Betraying fiscal conservatives by turning a record budget surplus into a deficit in 3 years.
Suddenly wildly supporting huge deficit spending - all done just to cling to power.
4.
Spending more in a single year than any government in
Canadian history. Driving Canada back into the deficit hole we had spent
12 tough years clawing out of.
5. Spending an estimated 1.2 billion dollars on the 2010 G-8 and G-20
Summits in Muskoka and Toronto. A billion dollar photo opt for Harper.
Just an opportunity for Harper to try and manipulate the media optics and
be seen hobnobbing with other world leaders, with the hopes of shoring up
his image and popularity with the Canadian public. The aim being to cling to
power and hopefully gain his coveted majority government. What a
sickening wasteful spectacle, and one has to wonder who was giving the
orders to the Police in Toronto.
6. Promising a lean government, and then bloating the cabinet by six more
Cabinet positions - with all the resultant increase in expenses.
7. The income trust policy fiasco. Broken promise on taxing
income trusts.
8. Selling out to the Americans on softwood lumber and leaving a 1
billion dollar tip on the table. A betrayal of our industry, and a
capitulation to the Americans.
9.Trying to buy the 2007 Quebec election with a 34% increase in transfer
payments.
10. Promising investors a break on capital gains taxes and then abandoning
it after being elected.
11. Breaking promises to provinces, including Newfoundland and Labrador
and Saskatchewan, over transfer payments, but showering Quebec.
Sucking up to Quebec, with the hope of forming a majority government.
12. Running the most secretive and least accountable government in
Canadian history after running on a platform of accountability. Not treating the Canadian Press Gallery fairly.
13.
Perogation of Parliament for no reason other than to cling to power, and refusing to face parliament
for a non-confidence vote. If and when the government loses the confidence of the House -
it is the
right and duty of opposition parties to offer an alternative
government to the Governor General, if they can cobble together a
coalition as did the Liberals and NDP and Bloc. Instead of respecting our
Parliamentary traditions Harper shuts down the House - with the support of
the GG.
Harper did the same perogation of Parliament in the early part of 2010 - most likely due to the heat his government was
getting from the Parliamentary Committee on Afghani Detainees and the alleged
cover up of the torture of some of these detainees that the Canadian
forces turned over to the Afghani authorities.
14. Spreading lies and distortions that the Coalition was attempting
a coup, and what they were doing in trying to form their own
government was undemocratic. In reality what Dion,
Duceppe and Layton were doing was democratic, and legal and in tune with
parliamentary tradition.

It is astonishing how
hypocritical so many conservative supporters have become. They are willing
to justify almost any kind of control freak, crooked, manipulative,
dishonest, smoke and mirrors scheme Harper and his crew of yes men and yes
women hatch up. They are willing to go along with the blatant lies of
Harper. They are willing to be dishonest and follow political correctness,
just so they can continue playing their ridiculous political games.
Funny thing though - too
many of these so-called conservatives and conservative supporters are not
even genuine conservatives. They often say they are small C conservatives,
which basically means nothing other than they are merely pragmatists whose
only interest is in power, dominance and control. Therefore there are
virtually no underlining foundational principles left of mainstream
conservatism as we know it in Canada in 2010. They really don't stand for
anything much, other than power, and the pursuit of power.
Look at Alberta my home
province ? This is an excellent example of what I'm saying. The
Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta (which has ruled Alberta since
1971) is not really conservative, but much more Liberal. They are
not social conservatives. They were for a short period of time under the
Finance Minister Jim Dinning fiscal conservatives, but since Dinning they
have abandoned fiscal conservatism. Today the Alberta government spends
more per capita in 2010 than any other Provincial or Federal government of Canada.
These people and their supporters here in Alberta are therefore just phony
conservatives. They are really more Liberal then anything else. Yet they
claim to have a distain and disgust towards Liberals, but in practice
these people are very, very similar to Liberals - it is just they have a
different name for their party.
Therefore
the present brand of Conservatism in Canada is a sham, and really doesn't
stand for anything other than power, and the mad pursuit of power. The
leaders and followers of this present brand of conservatism in Canada
don't stand on principles, but have long ago abandoned any kind of adherence
to principle, but are willing to bend in any direction possible as long as
it will help them stay in power of gain power. For a short period of
time the Reform Party stood on principles, but it became power hungry and
abandoned principles in its pursuit of political power.
Under Stephen Harper
the
Conservative Party of Canada is dead, but it has a death grip upon Canada
and power in Canada, and Harper and his wrecking crew are willing to
destroy the country in the process of clinging to power. Prominent Canadians from all walks of
life are more and more describing Harper as a very dangerous man. He
is an extremely dangerous man. He must never ever be allowed to win
his coveted majority government, because control freak Harper simple
cannot be trusted. His record proves that he cannot be trusted.
Stop Harper Now
!
The Real Deal
I regard myself as both a strong fiscal and social
conservative - generally speaking. The words I use here
" Generally Speaking " mean that I do not go along with
everything Conservative or Republican. This is because I am not
politically correct, and am honest, and some conservative ideas are just
based on ideology.
I believe in smaller more efficient government,
and believe in reducing the power of the nanny state and instead
empowering individuals more. I believe in having governments live within
their means and governments getting spending under control, and reducing
the regulatory and tax burden on Canadians.
I also am socially conservative and believe that we need
to protect certain core values in Canada: like promoting the traditional
family (one man one woman), like getting tough with criminals, like
opposing political correctness, opposing abortion-on-demand, like
opposition to same sex marriage and opposing the promotion of sodomy in
our schools, and generally supporting traditional values in Canada.
I am opposed to being overly tolerant, opposed to
political correctness, compromise of principles, the present immigration
policy, winning at all costs, gay rights, the intrusive socialist nanny
state, lack of discipline of children, feminist ideology, hiring equity,
and special status for aboriginals.
I support honesty, our Judeo-Christian heritage, the
traditional family and support a strong role of the Father in the
family.
These are just some of the things I oppose and support,
but this should show you plainly that I have strong fiscal and social
conservative leanings. There is room for pragmatism in matters of
business. The colour of the hen doesn't matter - all that matters is
whether she lays eggs.
Right now in Canada in 2010 people like me have no friendly
home to park our vote. I do not like the idea of voting NDP or Liberal, but may be
forced to do so, because I cannot support this phony Conservative brand. Perhaps it is time to change
that and we create a real conservative leaning party, that has a heart and
a soul that is not for sale.
