WHAT'S IN A NAME ?                          Link to ...The Lost Tribes of Israel

What ? The House of Israel ?  Isn't that Jewish ?  Yes there are many questions.

The word "Jew " is derived from the Hebrew word Jehudi, which is the Hebrew word for Judah. Judah is only one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The Jews are part of Israel, but they are not all of Israel, but only the tribe of Judah.

The twelve tribes of Israel are as follows:  Genesis 35:22-26 " .....Now the sons of Jacob were twelve : the sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun: The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin: And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan and Naphtali: And he sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher......"

Notice very carefully that Judah is part of Israel, but there are also eleven (11) other tribes, besides Judah (from which the word Jew is derived). It is so important to not forget this.

The term House of Israel is found over 120 times in your Bible. Before proceeding it is vital we not confuse the spiritual with the physical. Let us draw a clear distinction between the church, the law, the spiritual ..........and the physical, material, national and fleshly descendants of the tribes of Israel.

The church is described as spiritual Israel and is open to all kinds of different races, ethnic groups and so on (Galatians 3:28-29).

Then there is physical, fleshly Israel. That is who we are dealing with here. So let us be clear. We are not talking about the spiritual. We are not talking about the church. We are dealing with physical Israel - the twelve tribes of Israel.

God began His nation with one man, Abram. God  promised Abram to make his seed, or descendants into a multitude of nations and Kings were to come out of him (Genesis 12:1-3 and 15:1-6). God later changed Abram's name to Abraham, which means father of many nations (Genesis 17:1-8). His descendants were to be as numerous as the stars in the sky.

An interesting side note concerning Ishmael, Abraham's son from Hagar, Sarai's handmaid. This son's descendants were to grow into a vast multitude (Genesis 16:4-10,  17:20,  21:13,18). There is strong evidence to suggest these are the Arab people of today.

God spoke of Sarai, whose name He changed to Sarah. She was to be the mother of nations and mother of Kings. This was prophesied of her before she even had any children, since she was barren and 80 years old at the time (Genesis 17:15-19). God even gave the name to the yet unborn boy child  and promised God's covenant would be with Isaac and his seed forever.

So Sarah conceived and gave birth to Isaac. She was 90 and Abraham 100 years old at the time (Genesis 21:1-8). This was a very great miracle.

Later on God tested Abraham's faith and commitment to God, by commanding  Abraham sacrifice Isaac to God as a burnt offering. Abraham was prepared to go ahead and do it, but God stopped him before he sacrificed Isaac (Genesis 22:1-14 )( Hebrews 11:17-19).  Abraham had passed the test of faith and God knew Abraham put God first in his life. The promises God had made to Abraham were now unconditional in nature.

Genesis 22:15-18 " And the angel of the Lord called out of heaven the second time, and said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not beheld your son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying will I multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is on the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. "

The promises were later passed on to Isaac (Genesis 26:1-5).

Isaac had two sons Esau and Jacob. Esau despised his birthright and sold it to Jacob (Genesis 25:23-34). Jacob and his Mother Rebekah also tricked Isaac to bless Jacob rather than Esau (Genesis chapter 27). So the birthright went to Jacob, but God had this planned all along (Genesis 25:21-23).

The birthright blessing went to Jacob (Genesis 28:1-4).  God passed on the promises to Jacob and said that Jacob's seed , or descendants would be as numerous as the dust of the earth. This was before Jacob was even married, before he even had any children. This message came to Jacob in the form of a dream. He had dreamed this dream with his head upon a stone, or rock. This is referred to as Jacob's pillar stone and it is very significant (Genesis 28:10-12, 16-19, 22).

This is the stone which is part of the coronation chair upon which  Queen Elizabeth II  and many other Royals were crowned ! This is the stone, or rock that the children of Israel carried in the wilderness for 40 years, and out of it came water for the children of Israel (Exodus 17:1-6 note verse 6) (Numbers 20:1-13 note verse 11) (Deuteronomy 8:15) (Deuteronomy 32:1-4, 13, 15, 18, 30-31, 37).

This stone, or rock is symbolic of Jesus Christ - the stone rejected by the builders ( Luke 20:17-18) (Matthew 21:42, 44). 1 Corinthians 10:1-4  " Moreover brethren I would not have that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. "

Jacob had two wives and two concubines and they gave birth to 12 sons and there is only one daughter (Dinah) mentioned.

Genesis 35:22-26 " .....Now the sons of Jacob were twelve : the sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun: The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin: And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan and Naphtali: And he sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher......"

God again blessed Jacob and changed his name to Israel (Genesis 32:24-30). God also promised Jacob (whose name was changed to Israel) that his descendants would grow into a nation and company of nations, and Kings would be among his descendants (Genesis 35: 9-15). Also the land of Canaan was promised to his descendants as an inheritance.

Now Jacob's firstborn son was Reuben, who was the recipient of the birthright blessing, but he lost it, because he had sex with Bilhah, Jacob's concubine. So the blessing went to the firstborn of Rachel, which was Joseph.

Joseph's brothers were jealous and envious of Joseph, because he was Jacob's favorite , and also because of his dreams (Genesis 37:3-4, 5-11).  So they planned to kill him, but instead sold him to some slave traders, who were on their way to Egypt (Genesis 37:18-28).

God was with Joseph in Egypt and blessed him greatly there. Through a tremendous series of miracles God promoted Joseph to second in command in Egypt (Genesis 41:37-45). Notice in verse 45 you read that Joseph was given Asenath for a wife. She was the daughter of the Priest of On.  Two sons were born to Asenath and Joseph, the firstborn Manasseh and then Ephraim (Genesis 41:50-51).

Now Jacob and his other sons and their families were living in Canaan. There was a famine, so they went to Egypt to buy food. It was there that they met up with Joseph and were reconciled with their brother. Joseph persuaded the entire family to move to Egypt, where there was plenty of food during the very hard times.

So they stayed there. Jacob lived in Egypt for 17 years.  Jacob became sick and Joseph and his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim went to see him. Israel officially adopted these two boys as his own sons, and of course this made then eligible for an inheritance and blessing. Any other children Joseph had would belong to Joseph (Genesis 48:5-6).

Israel blessed the lads and said " Let my name be named on them."  The name Israel belonged to these two boys and their descendants. Genesis 48:16 " The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them......."  So the name Israel, is a name that the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, have a right to. They inherited it from their Grandpa Israel, who officially adopted them just prior to his death!! Please note this carefully, because it has a lot to do with the name for our new nation - The House of Israel.

Note to the reader -  the Authorized King James translation is used, because it is one of the most accurate translations, but it may sound a bit old fashioned with it's old English words like  ' thee, thou, hast, thy, etc. and the th endings. Nevertheless accuracy is the important thing here. Other translations like the Living Bible put the text in modern English, and this is helpful to a degree. However, there are numerous, major, glaring doctrinal translation inaccuracies in the Living Bible, for example. So for accuracy stick to the Authorized King James Version, or the New King James Version. Other translations can be used as helpful aids to these two versions.

Genesis 48: 16-19 " The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head. And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head. And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. "

The descendants, or seed of Manasseh were to become a great nation. But Ephraim was to be even greater and grow into a multitude of nations. Remember these are brothers. They both belong to the tribe of Joseph, but Joseph is now split into two - Manasseh and Ephraim. They are the recipients  of the birthright blessing given to Joseph.

Genesis 49:22-26  " Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall: The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him: But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel: Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren. "

Deuteronomy 33:13-17  " And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath,  And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon, And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills, And for the precious things of the earth and fullness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren. His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh. "

So when we are looking for the modern day descendants of these tribes we must look for nations that are very blessed materially,  militarily powerful, possessing the gates of their enemies, with very large populations, brothers, and Manasseh is to be a single great nation, and Ephraim is to be even greater and be a multitude (or Commonwealth) of nations. And we need to also look for  the Throne of David and some kind of connection with it and the modern day tribe of Joseph. Why ?  This will become clear as we proceed.

The tiny, miniscule nation in Palestine, called Israel, never fulfilled this prophecy and never will. They never were a great nation, or a great company of nations. Take a look on a map at the nation in the Middle East currently called  Israel. This is a tiny spot of a country ! About the size of Vancouver Island with a population of less than 6 million. Why the Province of Alberta is around 21 times larger geographically than Israel in Palestine !! Canada and the United States are similar in size to each other, and each is approximately 300 times larger in square miles than tiny Israel in Palestine !!! Together we are over 600 times bigger in land area and have roughly over 54 times the population !!!  Even during King David's  and Solomon's time, when Israel in the land of Canaan was at its greatest size - it still was very small compared to nations like Canada and the United States. Israel in Palestine never could have fulfilled the prophecies regarding the descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh. They never were a great nation and a great company of nations.

Then who did ? Well it should start becoming clear, if you don't know already. The United States is Manasseh. Canada (along with Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and perhaps a few other's) is Ephraim. Together we are the tribe of Joseph. There are few countries in this world that are closer and more like brothers than Canada and the United States. Why ? It's because we are brothers ! We are Ephraim and they are Manasseh. Of course sometimes brothers can have a falling out. Queen Elizabeth sits on the Throne of David, and she is our head of state. Do you start getting the picture ? Do you begin to see why the name for our new nation will be The House of Israel ?

You may need further proof. Don't worry - we ain't finished yet. There are tons, and tons of more proofs. We have just begun.

Now the time drew near for old Jacob (whose name was changed to Israel) to die. He called together his twelve sons and prophesied of what would befall them in the last days. We are living in the last days now. God was inspiring Israel to give prophecies regarding his son's descendants in the last days. Jacob was a prophet too. God was working through him and his family.

Genesis 49: 1-2  Authorized King James Version  " And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days. Gather yourselves together and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father. "

Genesis 49:3-27 shows you the prophecies regarding these tribes for the last days. This will help us identify them in our contemporary world.

  1. " Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch. "
  2. " Simeon (and Levi) are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall. Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. "
  3. Levi same as for Simeon.
  4. " Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee. Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?  The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes: His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk. "
  5. " Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for an haven of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon."
  6. " Issachar is a strong ass couching down between two burdens: And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute."
  7. " Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. "
  8. " Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last."
  9. " Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties."
  10. " Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words."
  11. " Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall: The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him: But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:  Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren."
  12. " Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil."

The identity of old Israel's descendants in the last days.

  1. Reuben   Gen. 49:3-4   Look for a land and people that are unstable in some way. Very proud, dignified and strong, but not excelling in some way.  The French fit this description perfectly. Politically they are rather unstable. Look at the French Revolution. Look at the French Canadians. You never know what they will do next. They almost voted for independence in the past referendum. And they are a very proud people. It is not wise to humiliate a Frenchman. Also very dignified and sophisticated culturally. But they never became great, like Britain did.
  2. Simeon   Gen. 49:5-7   There is no specific end time nation descended from them. They were to be scattered among the other tribes of Israel.
  3. Levi        Gen. 49:5-7   There is no specific end time nation descended from them. They were to be scattered among the other tribes of Israel.
  4. Judah     Gen. 49:8-11  This prophecy refers to an end time Jewish state. Jew is a nickname for Judah. Described is a nation whose hand is at the neck of their enemies (like a choke hold).  Very strong militarily. Israel in Palestine was formed in 1948. It is a Jewish state with roughly 82 % of its population Jewish. They have fought almost half a dozen wars against their enemies and whipped them soundly each time. The scepter, which is the Throne of David, will remain with the Jews until Shiloh come. The Throne will remain Jewish ?  There are strong Jewish connections to the British Monarchy. Queen Elizabeth 11 can trace her Throne and blood lines back to King David. David was of the tribe of Judah. Christ will take over that throne when He returns. He is not yet ruling over, as King , the House of Israel. Also look for a wealthy and prosperous land, which verse 11 indicates. Judah(called Israel) is a wealthy nation.
  5. Zebulun   Gen. 49:13   Look for a seafaring people, with many good harbours and ships. An educated guess as to the modern day descendants would be the Irish and Newfoundlanders. This tribe lives on  Islands with strong links to the sea. Newfoundlanders are people of the sea.
  6. Issachar  Gen. 49: 14-15   Look for an easygoing kind of people. Perhaps the Italians. Very easy going . Very patient. They have patiently endured a long stream of corrupt governments.
  7. Dan         Gen. 49: 16-17  Look for a people that names places after themselves in their journeys. Also anyone making war against them in the last days will be in for a rough time, which the horse rearing up and dumping the rider symbolizes. These are your Scandinavian peoples - Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Greenland and maybe Finland. It is not wise to attack them militarily. They have a habit of naming places and rivers after their father Dan. Denmark can be translated as Dan's mark. They named the Danube River and so many other places.
  8. Gad         Gen. 49: 19  Look for a nation that will eventually gain the upper hand.  Could this be the Swiss and Austrians ?
  9. Asher      Gen. 49:20   A people with connections to Royalty. Very well off financially. Rich ! This is the Dutch people and also included here are the Boers - the white tribe of South Africa. Very wealthy people in the last days. The Netherlands still has a Royal family.
  10. Naphtali  Gen. 49:21  A nation, and  people strongly connected with freedom and words. Could this be the Greeks ?
  11. Joseph    Gen: 49:22-26  A very rich people, blessed with the wealth of the earth. Persecuted by their enemies, but with help and strength from God, soundly defeating them in combat. No doubt this is Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, The Falkland Islands and some other lands as well. Britain once ruled an empire. There was also the British Commonwealth. Very richly blessed materially. Our people were severely persecuted by our enemies, but gained the victory in war. There is room in prophecy for a greater fulfillment regarding Ephraim being greater than Manasseh and becoming a multitude of nations (Genesis 48:17-19). The British Empire and Commonwealth may have fulfilled it, but there could emerge something even greater in the last days. Will we have to fight again ? Probably. Prophecy seems to indicate it !!
  12. Benjamin Genesis 49: 27  Look for a warrior race. Could this be the Germans ? It does look that way. The German warriors were on the march a lot in the past century. When they start marching  you have a real fight on your hands. Just ask the Russians.

The tribe of Joseph got the lions share of the birthright blessing of national wealth and power. However, the other tribes of Israel also shared in this wealth and power.

Now getting back to the history of the tribes of Israel. The family had moved to Egypt, where Joseph was second in command - right behind Pharaoh. Jacob (whose name had been changed by God - to Israel)  died at the age of 147. The family remained living in Egypt. Joseph lived to be 110 years. The generations passed and these tribes remained distinct. They stayed in Egypt for 430 years and there were millions of them. They were eventually enslaved by the Egyptians, but God delivered them out of their slavery through great miracles. God chose Moses as His servant and freed the Israelites. They wondered in the wilderness for 40 years being fed by God. Eventually the time came for them to move in and occupy the land of Canaan. A land God had promised to give them.

It is interesting to note that these now 13 tribes were always distinct and separate from each other. Sure there no doubt was some intermarriage, but generally they each retained their own particular identity. You can read in Numbers the 1st Chapter how the tribes were  numbered separately. In Numbers 2nd Chapter you can read how the tribes were to organize themselves, when they made camp and pitched their tents. Numbers 2:1-2  Living Bible " The Lord gave these further instructions to Moses and Aaron: Each tribe will have its own tent area, with its flagpole and tribal banner; and at the center of these tribal compounds will be the Tabernacle." The tribe of Levi was the Priesthood tribe and had its own special place to camp around about the Tabernacle. So each tribe had its own distinct flag, flagpole and camping area.  When they broke camp and prepared to follow the cloud they did it in an orderly way with Judah leading the way ( Numbers 10:14-28 ). So it was all very well organized. Clearly God wanted these tribes to remain distinct, yet part of the general body of Israel. If God wanted them to be just one tribe then He wouldn't have gone through all the trouble of organizing them according to tribes.

Actually intermarriage among the various tribes of Israel was discouraged. There was a dispute regarding the daughters of Zelophehad. Apparently this man had died and never had any sons, but daughters only, and they had been promised their father's portion (Numbers 27:1-11). So the girls wanted their share of the inheritance. Here is the law they were given in this matter.

Numbers 36: 1-12  Living Bible  " The Lord instructed you to divide the land by lot among the people of Israel, they reminded Moses,  and give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters. But if they marry into another tribe, their land will go with them to the tribe into which they marry. In this way the total area of our tribe will be reduced, and not returned at the Year of Jubilee.

" Then Moses replied publicly, giving them these instructions from the Lord:  The men of the tribe of Joseph have a proper complaint. This is what the Lord has commanded concerning the daughters of Zelophehad:  Let them be married to anyone they like, so long as it is within their own tribe. In this way none of the land of the tribe will shift to any other tribe, for the inheritance of every tribe is to remain permanently as it was first allotted. The girls throughout the tribes of Israel who are heiresses must marry within their own tribe, so that their land won't leave the tribe. In this way no inheritance shall move from one tribe to another.

" The daughters of Zelophehad did as the Lord commanded Moses. The girls, Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, were married to men in their own tribe of Manasseh (son of Joseph); so their inheritance remained in their tribe. "

So there you have it. Intermarriage among the tribes was not encouraged. There were powerful economic and social pressures placed upon people to marry within their clan, within their tribe. But for sure there was some intermarriage. The inheritance of property was involved. And anyone who is a farmer, with more than one son, knows full well how sticky and delicate the matter of inheritance can be.

So these tribes moved in and occupied the land of Canaan. Each of the 13 tribes had its own territory and land, except for the Levites. Joseph was divided between Ephraim and Manasseh. It is important to remember that the tribes of Israel generally had a tradition of maintaining their own uniqueness and separateness. So they possessed the land and there were more and more of them.

Later on the people demanded a King and God chose Saul, but because Saul was not obedient to Him, God chose David to replace Saul. God made an unconditional promise that David's throne would continue forever, and that David would always have someone of his family and seed to occupy that throne (2 Samuel chapter seven).

2 Samuel 7: 16 " And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. "

If the throne of David no longer exists here on earth then the Bible is a fraud. You may as well take your Bible and throw it out the window, or in the thrash bin right now, if the Throne of David has been wiped out. If the Jews are all of Israel, as so many people say, then where is the throne ? Who is the King of the Jews ? And don't give me the argument that Christ now occupies that throne, but occupies it from heaven. This is false. If Christ now occupies that throne from heaven then the Bible is a fraud, because the Throne of David would have ceased to exist from the time of Zedekiah(586 BC) up to the time of Christ (33 AD). The Bible says the throne was to be established forever.

The truth is Christ will take over that throne when He returns. Christ is a descendant of King David. Christ's Kingdom has not yet been established here on earth. It will only be established when He returns to rule the earth (Revelation 11:15).

The nation of Israel was divided into two Kingdoms shortly after the death of Solomon. The northern ten tribes revolted against the house of David, against the Monarchy. They wanted a break in the high taxes that Solomon had saddled them with (1 Kings 12: 3-5). But Solomon's son Rehoboam answered roughly and promised further burdens for the people to bear(1 Kings 12:12-17). So the northern ten tribes rebelled and were called Israel (1 Kings 12:19). The southern tribe of Judah remained loyal to the crown and King  Rehoboam  (1 Kings 12:17, 20) (1 Kings 11: 35-37).

The northern ten tribes (now referred to as Israel)  continued to exist as an independent nation, separate from Judah for the next 200 years !! In 722 BC, God was finally completely fed up with their idolatry and sent the Assyrians to conquer them (2 Kings 17: 1-18). The Assyrians exiled the northern tribes called Israel and sent a different people to live in that land. They eventually became known as Samaritans (2 Kings 17:24-41). Israel was taken captive and never returned.

Where did these northern tribes go ? Well there is very much evidence to suggest these tribes eventually migrated to NW Europe. Remember they had a tradition of each tribe remaining distinct. So the tradition did not die. Each retained their own tribal cohesion, but over time their identity as the tribes of Israel faded. They were still part of Israel, but were no longer aware of it.

There are some web sites you can access to study this further.   The Lost Tribes of Israel and Jacob's Pillar Stone and The Stone of Scones.  There is also a chart showing how Queen Elizabeth can trace here ancestry right back to king David.

The Lost Tribes of Israel      This is an excellent site, put together by Mr. Jack Flaws. He has kindly granted me permission to create a hyperlink to his site. My primary aim is to direct you to the maps of the migrations of the Lost Tribes of Israel, and other information Jack has that helps shed light on this subject. This does not mean I agree with everything on his site and all his views, but I basically regard the information on the tribes of Israel and the Throne of David to be very important, and basically quite accurate. The more information we can get on a subject - the more accurate judgment we can make.

I find most of what he says about these matters to be extremely useful. You can get there by clicking on http://asis.com/~stag/losttrib.html

This is just a link to more information regarding the Lost Tribes of Israel.

Jacob's Pillow and The Coronation Stone   Jack has very useful information about Jacob's Pillar Stone and some interesting pictures and graphs on this page. Have a look at the Coronation Chair that Queen Elizabeth, was crowned on. Underneath it sits The Coronation Stone. You may access that page by clicking on the following hyperlink http://asis.com/~stag/stone.html

Modern day descendants of these so-called Lost Tribes of Israel include the Scandinavians, British, Dutch, Irish, Scots, French, and probably the Germans, Austrians, Swiss, and perhaps the Italians and Greeks. Generally we must look to NW Europe.

And remember, it isn't really that far from the land of Israel in Palestine, to say Britain and Denmark. It's approximately 2,450 miles the way the crow flies. And going overland through Turkey and the Ukraine you are looking at maybe 3,000 miles or so. Also remember there were ships traveled routinely through the Mediterranean Sea and up the coast to what is now known as the British Isles. It is not that far to travel really. No further than the migrations the pioneers made from what is now Eastern Canada and Eastern United States to the West. People move around all the time. They migrate to what they hope are greener pastures. So why should anyone be so surprised to hear that the tribes of Israel migrated to NW Europe ? It is wonderful farming country. A land of opportunity.

Judah remained in the land as a separate country, from the split with the northern ten tribes called Israel in roughly 920 BC up to 586 BC - about 334 years. Judah was a separate nation by itself for about 334 years !! But God was finally fed up with their idolatry and unfaithfulness. He caused the Babylonians to attack Judah and take most of them captive to Babylon in 586 BC (2 Kings 17:18-20) (2 Kings 25th chapter).

Seventy years later God caused a remnant to return and rebuild the walls around Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple (Jeremiah 29:10)  (2 Chronicles 36:22-23 ). The books of Ezra and Nehemiah deal extensively with this return. However, Judah never really regained independence, but remained a colony, or province of various Empires.  But they regained independence and a homeland in 1948.

When Judah was conquered by the Babylonians, King Zedekiah of Judah fled. However, he was captured and taken to Babylon for trial. King Nebuchadnezzar had Zedekiah's sons killed. Zedekiah was blinded, and jailed in Babylon(2 Kings 25:5-7). And the nobles of Judah were also slaughtered (Jeremiah 39:6-7).

So was this the end of the Throne of David ? No ! The King's daughters had survived the slaughter ! A remnant of Judah were left in Judea. Some hot heads rebelled against the Babylonians and set out for Egypt. They forced Jeremiah and the King's daughters to go with them  to Egypt (Jeremiah 43:1-7 note verse 6). Well The Babylonians came not long after and conquered Egypt too!

The Bible tells us no more about Jeremiah, Baruch and the King's daughters. We must pick up the story from history and tradition. Tradition says that Jeremiah, with Baruch and the King's daughters set sail West. Jeremiah eventually landed in what is now Ireland with one of the King Zedekiah's daughters - Tea Tephi (apparently the other daughter was left in Spain). Jeremiah also brought along Jacob's Pillar Stone.

Centuries earlier the Zerah line of the Royal family had migrated to that land. Tea Tephi was of the Pharez branch (Genesis 38: 24- 30).

Genesis chapter 38  -  Now Zerah and Pharez were the sons of Judah and his daughter-in-law Tamar. Judah's son Er had married Tamar, but Er was wicked in God's sight, so God killed him. The tradition was if a man died without an offspring then his brother was supposed to marry her, and the first child born would belong to the dead brother, so the child could inherit the dead man's estate and carry on his name. So Onan, Judah's second son took Tamar for a wife, but he refused to do the job of begetting a child for Er. Man alive you would think he would have done it with pleasure.  Kept spilling the sperm on the bed. Good grief ! Selfish lout ! This displeased the Lord and so God killed Onan too. Well the next son in line to marry Tamar was too young, so Judah told Tamar to remain a widow, until Judah's son Shelah was grown.

Well then later on Judah's wife died. Hard luck Judah.  Shelah was now grown, but Tamar realized Judah wasn't going to give Shelah to her for a husband. Maybe Judah figured he would lose his last son too. Tamar must have looked like bad luck for him.

Anyways Tamar covered her face and sat beside the road in an open place. Judah came along and thought she was a prostitute and propositioned her. He apparently didn't recognize her as Tamar. What's with these men ? They don't even want to know who they are having sex with ! For payment, for services rendered Judah promised her a baby goat, or sheep. Clever Tamar didn't trust Judah, so she asked him to give her something as a pledge, or deposit until he delivered the goat ....... the goods.

Well this cohabitation resulted in Tamar getting pregnant. When rotten Judah found out Tamar was pregnant he was going to have her burnt, because the rumour was that Tamar got pregnant through prostitution. Seems like there were a lot of gossips in those days too. Well Tamar delivered up the things Judah had left as a deposit and said the owner of these things is the Daddy. Judah had to admit the obvious. Got ya ! Whether he was embarrassed and red faced by being found out is not stated in the Bible. Maybe he was proud. Who knows. Anyways Er will finally have someone to carry on the name.

Tamar's time to give birth came and she had twins in her womb. It must of been a hard delivery. One little boy stuck out his hand first. So the midwife tied a scarlet thread onto the kids wrist, because he was the first. Being the firstborn was pretty important in those days. The firstborn inherited the most. This must have been a scary experience for Tamar having twins. Childbirth in them days was often fatal for women, not like in Canada today where we have things like caesarean sections. Anyways that little sucker with the scarlet thread on his wrist, pulled back in his hand ! And by golly the other boy can't wait and comes out instead ! This boy was named Pharez. The scarlet thread kid was named Zerah.

King David and all the Kings of Judah, up to the last one Zedekiah, were of the Pharez line. However, the breach was finally healed and the Throne was transferred to the Zerah line. This is how it happened. It is a very interesting story, very complicated. Maybe God likes to create riddles, so we can have things to figure out and mull over.

Ezekiel 17:1-4 " And the word of the Lord came unto me , saying, Son of man put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the House of Israel; And say, Thus saith the Lord God;  A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colors came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar: He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a land of merchants. "   The highest, young and tender branch is symbolic of the King's young daughter. She is plucked off and taken to another land - to the land currently called Ireland.

Ezekiel 17:22-24  "  Thus saith the Lord God; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of the young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:

" In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.

" And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the Lord have spoken and done it."     The young tender twig is symbolic of the King's young daughter. It is to be planted in a high mountain and mountain is symbolic of a nation in Bible prophecy. The daughter is transplanted to a different nation. Where ?  In  " the mountain of the height of Israel, " which means the daughter is taken from Judah to one of the other tribes of Israel. Tea Tephi fulfills this prophecy perfectly.

The green tree being dried up and brought down low is symbolic of the Pharez line of the Royal family. King David and his successor Kings were all part of that lineage (Matthew 1:1-3). King Zedekiah was part of the Pharez line too, but he was imprisoned and his sons were killed.

The dry and low tree, which God causes to flourish is symbolic of the Zerah line of the Royal family that had migrated to Ireland centuries before. Tea Tephi transfers the Throne of David to the Zerah line by marrying the Milesian King Eochaide (who was of the Zerah line). The Throne of David has been successfully transferred from conquered Judah to another tribe of Israel. The mysterious breach was healed. It is a long and fascinating study.

The land currently called Canada is part of Ephraim.  Ephraim is representative of all the tribes of Israel.

Ezekiel 37:16 " Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it , For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel his companions: "

Eventually the tribe of Ephraim and Judah will be joined together as one stick in God's hand verse 17. This implies that Ephraim and Judah are right now two nations, or divided . They are not together now. They will eventually be joined together. It is interesting to note that Canada has a free trade agreement with Judah - the land called Israel in Palestine.

Ezekiel 37:19 " Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; behold I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim......"

Ephraim is representative of all the House of Israel and Joseph. The name Israel was named on Ephraim by Jacob (Genesis 48:16). Jacob( whose name had been changed to Israel) adopted Ephraim as his own son and Israel said " let my name be named on them." We are the recipients of the birthright blessing given to Joseph. We here in Canada are the House of Israel.

All the various tribes of Israel are represented in our land. We have received much immigration from  other tribes of Israel like from Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Holland, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, the United States and we have people from Australia, New Zealand, the white tribe of South Africa, and from our mother country Britain. And we also have a large Jewish population. We are the House of Israel.

But what about immigration from other lands, like from the Orient, Africa, the Middle East and eastern Europe ? The fact that we have so many peoples here, who have come from almost every corner of the globe doesn't prove that we are not the tribe of Ephraim. We also have the aboriginal tribes. Rather this just confirms our identity further.

Hosea 7:8  " Ephraim he hath mixed himself among the people..... "   Yes indeed there has been a lot of mixing.

Our mother country is Britain, who is of the tribe of Ephraim. Our brother Manasseh is the United States. Britain was also the mother country of the USA.

So what is there in a name ? Plenty !  The name House of Israel shows us who we are. We are the tribe of Ephraim. This shows us our identity.

We and the United States are amazingly wealthy compared to most of the world. Instead of being grateful too many people don't even acknowledge God and Christ. Too many of them think it is through their own efforts that they got all this wealth. In reality it is God, who gives us power to gain wealth. Also it is God keeping His promise to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (Ephraim and Manasseh). It is God who makes a nation great, or not. It is God who builds up and tears down nations.

Why did God make us so rich and powerful ?  Did God just want to enjoy seeing us get richer and richer and fatter and fatter ? No! No! There is a reason behind it. Let us go back to the promises made to Abraham.

Genesis 22:17 " That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand which is on the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed."

Of course Christ was the main seed through which all the nations of the world are blessed.

However, there is another aspect to this. We are also to be a blessing to the world. We are not to needlessly exploit other countries. We are to help others, because we are rich and able to do so. We are to preserve the peace, because we have the economic and military power to do so. We can preserve the peace by controlling the important gates in the world, like the Panama Canal, and Gibraltar. The United States fought Communism, which was out to dominate the world. They won the cold war and communism has been defeated throughout most of the world.

What is in a name? There is a lot in a name.  We inherited that name from our ancient Grandfather Israel. We are the House of Israel. We need to live up to that name.
